Harvard boasts a rich and vibrant human rights community. Faculty members in a range of departments and schools carry out research and teaching on human rights related subjects. Visiting scholars and fellows contribute to human rights scholarship and discussion at the University and beyond, bringing a wealth of international research and practical experience.

The Harvard University Committee on Human Rights Studies (UCHRS) began its work in 2000. The work of UCHRS is a collaboration of the several human rights centers and programs at Harvard: the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the Kennedy School of Government, the Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, Rights, the Harvard University François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights, the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, the Human Rights Program at the Harvard Law School, and Scholars at Risk.  Each of these programs offers an extensive and diverse range of research and practical expertise, among both permanent faculty and visiting fellows. Some programs have ongoing research projects, and most have seminar and lecture series, and occasional events. Public events for all programs are listed on this website’s calendar.
