GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINE ANNOUNCED
The deadline for grant applications for the next meeting of the Distribution Committee of the Coshocton Foundation is Friday, January 6, 2017.
Community organizations with a 501(c)(3) IRS non-profit designation and schools may submit grant applications for consideration by the committee, which will meet on January 26, 2017.
Instructions for applying organizations and a grant application may be found at www.coshoctonfoundation.org or by calling (740) 622-0010.
Completed applications may be sent to the Coshocton Foundation, P.O. Box 55, Coshocton, OH 43812, or brought to the Coshocton Foundation office at 220 S. Fourth St. All applications must be received in the office by 4 p.m. on January 6, 2017. Please follow directions carefully. Incomplete applications will not be considered for funding by the committee.
The Coshocton Foundation recently awarded over $150,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors in area schoos. If you have won a Coshocton Foundation scholarship, you will need to submit to the Coshocton Foundation a copy of your billing statement from your college or university. A Summary of Account is NOT sufficient. Nor is anything entitled “Estimated” acceptable, and the listing of scholarships and grants received will not work either. The billing statement should be available on your unversity’s website, where you log in to get your other information.
The billing statement must show the amount owed for tuition, fees, room and board, etc. It should also show any other grants or loans you may have. The billing statement must reflect that you owe money. If you have a credit balance, the Coshocton Foundation cannot issue a check. All checks will be made out and sent to your college or university. No checks will be written to individuals. (We are not trying to be difficult — these are the rules by which we must abide!)
The Distribution Committee of the Coshocton Foundation met recently and awarded 9 grants totaling $62,450 to various community organizations. The grants awarded include:
- $15,900 to Echoing Hills Village, Inc. to assist in replacing their water system
- $15,900 to Coshocton County Agricultural Society to help renovate and bring to code the Grandstands
- $14,000 to the Coshocton County Health Department for the application fee for Public Health Department Accreditation
- $5,000 to the Clary Garden Foundation to assist with repairing and preserving their Springhouse
- $3,000 to Three Rivers Recreation – Roscoe Rec. to assist with their Dugouts and Bleacher Project
- $2,750 to River View Local School District for an Anatomy in Clay Learning System
- $2,400 to Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department for Firefighters’ Helmet Flashlights
- $2,000 to Women of Witness, Inc. to assist with the Chestnut Crossing Computer Replenishing Project
- $1,500 to Saint John’s United Church of Christ for personal care and household cleaning items for the Needy
TRUSTEES APPOINT NEW INVESTMENT COMMITTEE MEMBER
Tom Crawford of Coshocton has been appointed to the Investment Committee of the Coshocton Foundation by the Foundation Trustees.
Crawford replaces Steve Nelson, who has served two, five-year terms, and is the outgoing chairman of the committee. Tim Vance of Coshocton was recently elected committee chairman.
“ The Trustees and I are very pleased that Tom is willing to become even more involved by serving on the Investment Committee”, stated the Foundation’s Executive Director, Bob Pell, citing Crawford’s ongoing support of the Foundation and his concern for the welfare of Coshocton County.
A graduate of Iowa State University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and the University of Iowa with a Master’s in Business Administration, Crawford has been the Vice President/General Manager of McWane Ductile Ohio since 2012. Prior to
2012, he was the Vice President of Sales & Marketing for the McWane Ductile Iron Pipe Group. Tom began his career with McWane at Clow Water Systems in 2002 as the Fittings & Fabricated Products Plant Manager. Subsequently he was promoted to the Assistant General Manager at Union Foundry in Anniston, Alabama in 2003. From 2003 until 2010 he was Vice President General Manager of McWane Cast Iron Pipe Company in Birmingham, Alabama. In 2009 Tom was appointed to the Alabama Iron & Steel Council by Governor Bob Riley.
Tom is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital and resides in Coshocton.
As area high school seniors take college visits and begin to plan for the next phase of their lives, it seems appropriate to remind them and their guidance counselors of an exciting opportunity that is available to the right scholar.
The Carlson Scholarship Loan, last awarded in 2006, is being offered in 2016 to seniors from Coshocton, River View and Ridgewood High Schools. This scholarship provides to the recipient basically a “full-ride” for four years to the College of Wooster for a student who plans to major in math or science education. The winning applicant, whose college expenses will be covered through the Carlson award, must agree to return to Coshocton County to teach elementary or high school science or mathematics for three years in order for the loan to be completely forgiven for the student.
The scholarship loan recipient must be accepted by the College of Wooster in the field of math or science education and must be willing to fulfill the expectations of the loan agreement to qualify for this extraordinary college finance option.
The Carlson Scholar Loan Program was established at the Coshocton Foundation by the late Herb and Jean Carlson, longtime community supporters, whose desire was to see excellence in the field of math and science education through a program to establish scholar/teachers in the local school system.

Due to changes in IRS regulations, all grants from elementary, middle and high schools need to be made through the appropriate school district. In other words, where the application says “Name of Applying Organization,” the school district itself must be listed. The contact person may be listed as the actual individual representing the elementary, etc. school, with the person’s contact information. The grant application should also be made clear what school and program the grant is for. Also, the EIN of the school district needs to be reflected on the application.
