Wade McCree Jr. Incentive Scholarship

The Wade McCree Jr. Incentive Scholarship Program reflects a unified commitment by Michigan public universities to provide tuition scholarships in selected Michigan school districts to students who meet certain academic standards in high school.

Regardless of need, each scholar will have the average cost of tuition and fees covered through the Wade McCree scholarship. Students with a tuition-specific award will have the scholarship reduced by that amount. Students must apply by submitting the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) each year.

Award amount

The value of this award is equal to the average cost of undergraduate tuition and fees.

If a student has other awards that exceed the grant and scholarship amount of the Wade McCree program, the student will be awarded the aid that benefits the student more.

Scholarship criteria

  • Michigan Resident
  • Identified by Admissions
  • High School GPA minimum 3.0
  • ACT score minimum 21

Recipient selection

Students are selected in the 9th grade by their school administrators.

Scholarship renewal

Scholarships are renewable for eight consecutive semesters. Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and meet the standards of satisfactory academic progress required by all financial aid recipients.  Students are required to be enrolled at least full-time (12 credit hours).

Note: The Wade McCree Jr. Incentive Scholarship may not be combined with a Detroit Compact Scholarship.
