  • Palmetto Health has been recognized by readers of The State as best in health care for the seventh year in a row. Palmetto Health won two of the four health care categories: Best Hospital System and, for the third consecutive year, Best Hospital for Heart Health.
  • For the ninth time, Palmetto Health was recognized as one of the “Most Wired” organizations by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. Palmetto Health is one of only seven “Most Wired” health care provider organizations in South Carolina to meet the magazine’s strict criteria. Palmetto Health previously won the award in 2003, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
  • IDG’s Computerworld recognized Palmetto Health among the 2016 Best Places to Work in IT, one of 100 top organizations that challenge their IT staffs while providing great benefits, career opportunities and an enjoyable work environment. Palmetto Health ranked 10th among large organizations on the Best Places to Work in IT list.
  • Palmetto Health Richland, Palmetto Health Baptist and Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge were recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines® program for heart failure. Richland received the Gold Plus Achievement Award for heart failure, Baptist received the Silver Plus Achievement Award for heart failure and Baptist Parkridge received the Silver Achievement Award for heart failure.
  • February 2016 marked the 10th anniversary of Palmetto Health Heart Hospital – South Carolina’s only freestanding hospital dedicated solely to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Dedicated to being on the leading edge of advanced medical therapies and technologies, the Heart Hospital cares for more cardiac patients than any other hospital in the Midlands in a comfortable, healing environment.
  • Palmetto Health Baptist, Palmetto Health Richland and Palmetto Health Tuomey were designated as Blue Distinction Centers+ for maternity care by BlueCross® Blue Shield® of South Carolina and BlueChoice® Health Plan of South Carolina. In addition, Palmetto Health Baptist was designated a Blue Distinction Center for bariatric surgery; Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge was designated a Blue Distinction Center for spine surgery; and Palmetto Health Richland was designated a Blue Distinction Center for spine surgery, cardiac care and knee and hip replacement. The national Blue Distinction® Specialty Care program recognizes hospitals for delivering quality, affordable specialty care safely and effectively, based on objective measures developed with input from the medical community.
  • Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital’s Children’s Emergency Center celebrated its 20th anniversary in April. The only facility in the Midlands that is a designated Level I Trauma Center with a specific focus on pediatric emergencies, the Center has more than 30,000 visits per year, 13 exam rooms, a pediatric resuscitation room and two trauma bays featuring customized child-sized technology and equipment.
  • Palmetto Health’s Weight Management Center received the three-year “Comprehensive Center” designation after a series of extensive evaluations from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), in partnership with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
  • Palmetto Health Tuomey-based obstetrics practice Sumter OB/GYN received certification for its continued dedication to the Centering Pregnancy model and improving the health of moms and babies.
  • Palmetto Health was awarded Full Accreditation for three years, effective March 2016, by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP). As one of eight newly accredited research organizations, Palmetto Health joins 227 accredited organizations worldwide. To earn AAHRPP accreditation, organizations must demonstrate that they have built extensive safeguards into every level of their research operation and that they adhere to high standards for research. In today’s global, collaborative research enterprise, organizations increasingly rely on AAHRPP accreditation status to help identify trusted research partners.
