Etalab Dataconnexion – Best Tourism Startup

The Open Data policy is managed under the authority of the Prime Minister by the Etalab mission, headed by Mr. Henri Verdier.

The Etalab mission is part of the General Secretariat for the Modernization of Public Action, headed by Mrs Laure de La Bretèche.

The missions and the role of Etalab for the modernization of public action

Within the General Secretariat for the Modernization of Public Action, Etalab coordinates the activities of the State and its public institutions to facilitate the widest possible re-use of their public information.

Etalab administers the Interministerial portal  data.gouv.fr  designed to collect and make available free to all public information of the state of its public institutions and, if they wish, local authorities and people of law Public or private law bodies entrusted with a public service mission.

Etalab is continuing the free provision of public data in accordance with the general principle of free, easy and free re-use laid down in the Prime Minister’s circulars of 26 May 2011 and 13 September 2013 on the opening of public data, Emphasis on data with a high societal impact (health, education, etc.) and / or with high potential for economic and social innovation.

Etalab collaborates closely with the services responsible for the modernization of public action, in particular those responsible for innovation serving users and the digital transformation of the State.

Actions in favor of transparency and openness of public data

Etalab, since its inception, has posted the national portal  data.gouv.fr  which provides access to over 13,000 free and reusable public information.

Making, for example, accessible expenditures of the state budget from a single raw file in a reusable format, or the list of properties owned by the state, data.gouv.fr helps accountable to Citizens on the functioning of the State and its administrations by allowing a greater transparency of their functioning.
