Coleman A. Young Foundation (CAYF) prepares Detroit youth to succeed in and beyond college. CAYF starts early, first by developing skills for life at age 11, introducing youth to collegiate environments long before the time to apply comes. CAYF then offers uniquely designed scholarship programs, complimented by structured mentoring, to help scholars get to and through the universities and colleges they attend.

CAYF is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization founded in 1982 by Detroit Mayor Coleman A. Young and business leaders Lawrence Doss, Malcolm Dade and William Beckham, Jr.

Programs

Our mission is to develop leadership among Detroit’s youth through college scholarships, mentoring and other supports for personal growth and development.

Through the diversification of our programs, we’ve developed some amazing partnerships that have helped ensure our success and enhance the foundation’s long-term sustainability.
